Tournament battle vs Blood Angels

My third and final battle of the first day of the Belgian Open was against a blood angels army consisting off multiple predators, several units of assault marines in razorbacks with sanguinary priests, a unit of honor guard with a librarian in a razorback, landspeeders and a dreadnought in a drop pod. This mission was a modified seize ground with 3 objectives but each enemy HQ you killed was also worth an objective. Deployment was pitched battle.

I won the roll to go first and let my opponent choose table sides and deploy. He deployed all of his units except for the dreadnought in the drop pod. I deployed nothing.

In my opponent's first turn, he dropped his dreadnought and then moved up all of his units. It would have been opportune to use smoke but he didn't do that.
In my first turn, I dropped down my shooty terminators with the runepriest, Logan and the longfangs and my assault terminators. I blew up a few vehicles and immobilized a predator.

In my opponent's second turn, he moved his vehicles back and his dreadnought closer. He took some shots at my assault terminators and the long fangs.
On my turn, a unit of grey hunters arrived in front of his line of razorbacks. I also deepstruck a landspeeder in front of them. I blew up one of his vehicles. The longfangs took out the dreadnought. The remaining assault terminators assaulted his pinned assault marines. I also blew up another transport.

In my opponent's next turn, he disembarked the honour guard and assaulted my grey hunters with both the honour guard and the assault marines. I lost the grey hunters and the landspeeder.
In my third turn, a unit of scouts came on near his table edge. My rune priest and the shooty terminators moved towards the nearby objective. The runepriest shot murderous hurricane at an approaching unit of assault marines. The scouts also shot at that unit. Only the chainfist and stormshield assault terminator was still alive in the combat with the other assault marines squad. Logan and the longfangs started to move up and took some shots at his vehicles, destroying the immobilized predator.

On my opponent's fourth turn, he moved his honour guard back into their vehicle while the assault marines were moving towards the nearest objective. But a lot of wrecks were between his forces and mine.
On my fourth turn, the second unit of grey hunters arrived in the middle of the board. They moved so they could claim the nearby objective. He lost another predator and the remaining assault marines that were suffering from murderous hurricane didn't make it into combat.

On my opponent's fifth turn, he took out the drop pod sitting on one of the objectives with his assault marines. He moved his remaining razorbacks away and into shooting range of my grey hunters holding the objective.
On my fifth turn, the second unit of wolf scouts arrived near his honour guard. I also deepstruck a landspeeder right on top of that objective. The grey hunters holding the center objective moved between the wrecks and my drop pod, trying to find cover from his units. The heavy flamer from the landspeeder and the shots from my scouts thinned down his assault marines squad.

We ended the battle here as we didn't believe we had time to play another round. I had one objective claimed and two contested. If the battle had continued it could still have swung both ways.

Tournament battle vs Dark Eldar

My second battle at the Belgian Open was against a dark eldar army consisting of 5 units of wracks (4 in venoms and one in a raider), three units of trueborn in venoms, three ravagers, the baron, a homunculus and a large unit of hellions. Deployment was spearhead. In this mission each player had to try to hold more victory points than his opponent in five areas: each spearhead table quarter and the no-mans land in the middle.

My opponent won the roll and took a while to decide wether or not he was going to deploy and if he was going to let me go first or not. In the end he let me go first and we both didn't deploy anything.

In my first turn, I dropped Logan and the longfangs in the middle of the table but I scattered back. I also dropped my unit of assault terminators near his board edge. I kept the shooty terminators and the priest off the board and in stead dropped a grey hunter squad in my deployment zone.
In my opponent's first turn, about half of his army came on. He started to shoot at the assault terminators, killing more than a few and the longfangs also took some damage.

On my second turn, all my reserves except for the shooty terminators arrived. The first unit of scouts came on on the wrong side so I had them move up towards terrain in the other table quarter on my side of the table. The other scout squad moved up and ran into terrain near his board edge. The second unit of grey hunters dropped in front of his vehicles. The remaining assault terminators moved up towards his lines. Logan and the remaining longfangs took some shots at his skimmers. I deepstruck both landspeeders in front of his vehicles. One ended up in terrain but made it's save. I blew up one vehicle but failed to do much else.
In my opponent's second turn, his hellions showed up. He assaulted the grey hunters but they held their ground. His shooting destroyed all the assault terminators save one and a landspeeder. He had an infantry unit assault my remaining assault terminator but he held his ground as well. My scouts near his board edge went to ground in terrain and absorbed a lot of enemy fire.

On my third turn, the shooty terminators arrived. I tried to land them near his table edge but they scattered off the table. He got to place them and put them in my deployment zone, right in the corner. Most of my units were either out of range or locked in combat so there was not much to do. The remaining longfangs took some shots and in the assault phase, the grey hunters were destroyed. The lone assault terminator stayed in combat, whitling down his unit one by one.
In his turn, he added another squad to the assault with the lone terminator but once more, he held his ground. The helions assaulted the long fangs and Logan and destroyed them as well. The scouts near his board edge survived another round of concentrated fire but I lost most of them.

On my fourth turn, I didn't do much. I kept my remaining units back and hopefully out of range of his helions.
In his fourth turn, he shot down several of the shooty terminators from afar. His helions assaulted the second unit of grey hunters but once more they stopped his assault cold. The lone terminator was still holding his ground. He also started to move vehicles around so he could claim as many table quarters as possible. The second landspeeder also got destroyed.

On my fifth turn, my wolfguard survived the battle with the helions but they used hit and run to get out of the combat. I tried to get the remaining shooty terminator and the runepriest into area terrain.
On his final turn, he shot down the shooty terminator and the runepriest. The helions assaulted and killed the wolf guard from the grey hunter squad. The lone assault terminator also bit the dust, as did the remaining scouts near his table edge.

At the end of the battle, I had only a few immobilized drop pods and the lone scout squad near my table edge left. By moving the helions into the table quarter where my scouts were hiding, he also took the fifth quarter. In the end my opponent won best general at the tournament, so I don't mind losing to him that much. Dark Eldar are a bad match up for my army, especially if I can't let my opponent go first ...

Tournament battle vs Grey Knights

Last weekend I participated in the Belgian Open tournament. The first battle, with dawn of war deployment was a modified annihilation mission. In this mission each player had to try to take more kill points than his opponent. At the start of the battle, we each could nominate 5 points on force organisation chart categories (but not on troops), max 2 per category, and those categories would give kill points equal to the number of points allocated. If you hadn't allocated points to a category, you couldn't get kill points for the units in those slots and if those units then survived, your opponent got kill points for them. Troops and dedicated transports were worth 1 kill point each.
I played this battle against a grey knight player with a Crow purifier spam list. His army consisted of Crow, several units of purifiers in razorbacks and rhinos and 3 dreadnoughts with TL autocannons and psibolt ammunition. Since he had only HQ and Heavy Support units, I put 2 points in each of those categories. The rest of his army were troops and dedicated transports. He put 2 points in my Fast Attack 2 points in my Elites and 1 point in my HQ.

I won the roll to go first and let hem choose table sides and deploy first. He deployed two units of purifiers in the middle of the table in terrain. Crow would go in reserve so he could stay safe as long as possible. All the rest of his army would walk/drive on turn 1.
I deployed nothing. My landspeeders went in reserve and would come on from my board edge. The scouts would outflank. The runepriest went with the shooty terminators.

In his first turn he moved the three dreads on, one in the center and the others more than a foot away from them on each side. He likewise split up the rest of his army, letting the purifiers come one spread out over his board edge.
In my first turn I dropped Logan and the longfangs and both my terminator units on the left flank. I shot at his vehicles and walkers but did minimal damage, only killing one dreadnought.

In my opponent's second turn Crow showed up. My opponent destroyed my assault terminators (just looking at them made them drop dead as I rolled lots of ones on terminator armour saves the whole tournament). He also killed my runepriest and the shooty terminators.
In my second turn a unit of scouts arrived, shot two melta's in the back of a dreadnought and assaulted it but failed to hurt it. Both speeders arrived who moved flat out on the other flank. The longfangs took care of crow and shot him down.

In his third turn, he destroyed the wolf scouts. With his army having to move towards the other half of the table, he couldn't do that much to me this turn.
In my turn, the grey hunters arrived. I managed to immobilize or destroy a few of his transports. The landspeeders also took out a second dreadnought.
In my third turn the second unit of wolf scouts arrived but on the wrong side of the table. They wouldn't be able to survive a 10-man unit of purifiers so I let them come on near my table edge so I could keep them from giving up double kill points. I took out another dreadnought.

My opponent started to clean up my grey hunters. He also shot at the drop pods. One drop pod survived a lot of turns of shooting from the ten purifiers on the left. My opponent realised too late that he had a hammer in the unit and could have destroyed it in the assault.
In my fourth turn there was a strange incident where I blew up a vehicle in the shooting phase and the explosion killed the only remaining member of a purifier squad that was in combat with a unit of mine. We weren't sure that I could still fire and/or assault with my unit that was now no longer locked in combat.

When the battle ended (time ran out), My opponent had earned 9 kill points but since I had killed all three of his dreadnoughts and crow who all counted double and several of his vehicles, at least one purifier squad and my long fangs were still alive, I won the battle on kill points 14 to 9. I also scored slightly more on victory points (1039 vs 930). So the first win of the tournament was in!
