Hobby progress update

I finally got back to this project after a busy weekend. First of all I got some work done on the assembly of another wolf guard terminator.

I magnetised his arms (something I maybe should have done with my other terminators as well) and also prepared for the magnet for another cyclone missile launcher. Unfortunately I ran out of the right magnets. I ordered some online today so I hope they arrive in the mail soon.

Two more regular marines also got assembled. Another long fang with missile launcher. Maybe it would have been a good idea to have magnetised his arm as well. Something to think about when I add more long fangs to my list.

And finally another grey hunter with a bolter.

P&B battle report vs Space Marines

My third 1250 point campaign game was against a footslogging salamander space marine army. His army consisted of a chaplain with jump pack, a 10-men unit of assault marines, a 5-men unit of thunderhammer stormhield terminators, two 10-man tactical units (one in a drop pod) and a 10-man devastator squad. We rolled for mission and deployment and got capture and control with a spearhead deployment. I won the roll to go first and let him deploy first.

He deployed his first tactical squad together with 2 combat squads of devastator marines in a large hill terrain piece in the middle of his deployment zone. He placed his terminators in front of the hill and the assault squad with the chaplain behind the hill, spread out so I couldn't drop in behind his lines. His objective marker was just in front of his terminators.
I deployed nothing and had placed my marker out in the open in the middle of my deployment zone.

In his first turn he landed his drop pod between the center terrain piece and a ruin in the right center. Upon disembarkation, he combat squaded the tactical marines, and moved one into the ruin and the other into the center piece of terrain, on route for my objective. His terminators moved a bit closer to the middle, with his objective now behind the terminators.
In my first turn, I first placed my drop pod with my terminators and dropped them right behind his terminators. I then deployed my drop pod with the grey hunters, wolf guard and rune priest to the left of this drop pod. I split my rune priest away from the unit so he had a clear line of sight to the thunderhammer stormhield terminators who were conveniently lined up so I could hit multiple ones with Jaws of the World Wolf. I then placed my third drop pod with Logan and the long fangs to the right of my terminators' drop pod, right in the middle of his forces (between his drop pod, both combat squads of tactical marines and all his troops in the hill terrain piece. In the shooting phase, my runepriest made his psychic check but failed his to hit roll with Jaws. My terminators then shot all their combi-weapons at his thunderhammer stormshield terminators, killing three. He failed his leadership check and ran and since my units were between him and his board edge, they were trapped and removed from play. My grey hunters shot up a devastator combat squad, causing another check that my opponent also failed. Luckily for him they ran to just short of the board edge and could regroup next turn. Logan and the missile launcher long fangs shot at his combat squad in the ruin to my right and killed two, enough for a check (a pattern is showing itself here) but they held their ground.

In his second turn, his devastator combat squad regrouped. His assault marines with the chaplain moved closer towards my grey hunters. His unwounded combat squad of tactical marines moved through terrain towards my objective. He opened up fire on my wolf guard terminator squad, killing three but I held my ground. He also killed a few grey hunters with the shooting and flaming of his assault marines and a few long fangs were also gunned down by his units, enough to cause a check but they held. He then assaulted my grey hunters. I activated my banner and in the resulting combat, he kills all the grey hunters except for the banner bearer. I still make my check so they remained locked in combat.
In my second turn no drop pods show up. I moved my terminators towards his assault marines. I moved Logan and the long fangs (with relentless) towards his tactical squad in the hill. My rune priest ran into the centre piece of terrain and into line of sight of his combat squad within the same terrain. Logan and the combat squad shot at the tactical squad. My rune priest tried to cast Murderious Hurricane on the tactical combat squad but suffered a perils of the warp on a double one, taking one wound. His troops survive the psychic shooting without harm but are now affected with the difficult and dangerous terrain rule. The terminators assault the chaplain and assault marines who kill the last grey hunter. We remain locked in combat. Logan and the long fangs assault the tactical squad in terrain and since Logan has no grenades, I am forced to use his axe as a powerfist, since I will be striking last anyway. Logan and the long fangs win the combat although I loose all but one of the long fangs, and then he fails his leadership and runs away. Since Logan is a terminator, he cannot run after them but I consolidate to within 6 inch of them.

On my opponent's third turn, his fleeing tactical squad runs off the table. He moves his bolter wielding devastator combat squad away from the board edge. In the shooting phase I loose the last of the long fangs. I loose the assault between his assault marines and my remaining terminators and only one terminator survives.
On my turn, one drop pod arrives and I place it next to his objective, between all the other drop pods. Logan moves through cover towards his next target: the devastator combat squad on the upper level of the hill. I move my rune priest out of cover towards the combat with the assault marines. My shooting is largely ineffective this round as most juicy targets are locked in combat. In the asault phase, Logan assaults the devastators and I assault the chaplain with my rune priest. Logan destroys all the devastators and consolidates towards the assault marines. The chaplain and the assault marines kill the remaining wolf guard terminator. The rune priest wounds the chaplain, succeeds in his force weapon psychic check but my opponent makes his invulnerable save. We once again remain locked in combat.

In my opponent's fourth turn, he moves his tactical combat squad in the centre piece of terrain towards my objective. His devastator squad is moving around the drop pods. He melta's the last drop pod that came in and destroys it. In the assault phase, he kills the rune priest and consolidates.
In my fourth turn, my last drop pod comes in and it arrives near my own objective. The grey hunters that arrived in the previous round run into the crater of the destroyed drop pod so they can get a cover save on his remaining melta and heavy weapon fire. The grey hunters shoot at his combat squad in terrain and he loses a few marines. Logan Assaults the assault marines and chaplain and destroys them. He consolidates towards my opponents objective.

In the remaining turns, I destroy the few remaining marines he has left and even blow up his drop pod. With both objectives secured, I win the game.

Hobby progress update

I put some work in my objective counter idea the last days ...

All the green stuff (except for the wolf icon) will be covered in snow just like the bases of my infantry models.

Hobby progress update

I finished assembling a new model today: a long fang with forgeworld old-school multi-melta.

Hobby progress update

I have magnetised my counts-as Logan Grimnar's arms and cleaned up the green stuff work a bit.

I have also started work on my idea for objective counters. I've made a mock up of what I would like to use.

The idea would be that the half circle spikey bits would be sticking out of a mound of snow with the wolf icon on top of the mound. I would need to fill the inside of the circle bits with something (little stones or something else that's cheap) and then put a layer of green stuff over it. The green stuff would also cover the gaps between the two pieces and I would use some of the other spikey bits to stick out of it.

P&B 1000 points army painted

Here's a group shot of my Paint & Battle Campaign 1000 point list.

P&B battle report vs Tau

My second 1250 Paint & Battle Campaign battle was against a tau player. As I am not familiar with the tau codex, I don't know the correct names for some of his units, let alone their upgrades. His army consisted of a battlesuit commander in a squad of another battlesuit and two shield drones. He also had two battlesuits with heavy weapons and two shield drones. He had a transport vehicle with scouts in it and a hammerhead. He also had two units of fire warriors with drones and a unit of kroot. We rolled for mission and deployment and got seize ground (3 objectives) with pitched battle deployment. I won the roll to deploy objectives first and placed one in the table edge that would suit my opponent the most (large woods terrain for his kroot). He placed his in the middle of the board and I placed the last one back on the same side so we had a triangle of objectives. My opponent won the roll to go first and deployed his army completely.

He deployed his kroot in the woods on his left side, hid his HQ suits behind the woods, put one squad of tau warriors in a ruin on his right side and the other in the open between these two squads. He deployed his heavy weapon suits right of the tau warriors in cover. His hammerhead was deployed near his own table edge behind the woods. His transport skimmer was deployed between the two units of fire warriors. Since everything in my list is in drop pods, I deployed nothing. He then scouted his transport skimmer forward and had his scouts get out into cover near the objective in the middle of the table.

In my opponents first turn, he moves some of his units a bit around but as he has nothing to shoot at, this round is quickly finished.
In my first turn, I brought in my first three drop pods. All three scattered 11 inches! This screwed my tactics up and left my terminators mostly out of the game. I placed my first drop pod with my terminators next to his HQ but scattered just next to the board edge. Had the arrow been a bit more to the long or short table edges, I would have scattered off. The termintors got out and were luckily still in rapid fire and melta range of his HQ. I placed my second drop pod with grey hunters, wolf guard and rune priest between his fire warrior units but scattered towards the middle of the board. My rune priest left the unit when disembarking so he could fire at a different unit. I then placed my third drop pod with Logan and the long fangs in the middle of his deployment zone next to his fire warriors. But I scattered towards the other objective near the kroot. In my shooting phase my rune priest got off Jaws of the World Wolf and took out one of his heavy weapon suits. The unit of grey hunters shot at the tau warriors in the open and killed a few drones. My terminators shot all their combi-weapons at his HQ unit and he lost three wounds on the suits. I split the fire from the long fangs and shot two at the remaining heavy weapon suits and two at the hammerhead but failed to do anything useful.

In my opponents second turn, he first used his marker lights to hit the grey hunters and the long fangs. His shooting kills one long fang, several grey hunters and one wound on both Logan and the runepriest. Two of the drop pods get their weapon shot off. In stead of shooting, his kroot assault the long fangs and Logan. Logan uses his living legend rule and he and the long fangs kill six of his kroot but I loose three other long fangs. The kroot fail their check and run away and with Logan in terminator armour, I cannot run them down but I consolidate within 6 inch. His HQ suit jumps away from my terminators.
In my second turn, both of the remaining drop pods come in. The first one also scatters 11 inches but still ends up in rapid fire range of the HQ unit but now blocks the way for my terminators. The second one scatters less and ends up next to the first grey hunters' drop pod. My terminators start moving around the woods towards his running kroot. I also ran them in the shooting phase but rolled a 1. The first grey hunters squad moves towards the scouts, shoots at them with pistols and melta and then assaults them. The small grey hunters squad that dropped near the HQ unit shoots at it and kills one of the suits. The other small squad shoots at the fire warriors in the open. Logan and the remaining long fang also move closer to that unit, shoot at it and assault it. The rune priest runs into cover and the tries Jaws of the World Wolf again but fails to take something down this turn. I win the assault against the scouts, killing all but one who runs and gets away. His route towards his table edge will take him near the two drop pods so I will not need to escort him off the board. I consolidate these grey hunters into the terrain the scouts were in. Logan and the long fang also win combat without further casualties and the remaining fire warriors run off and once more I cannot pursue. I consolidate closer to both these running fire warriors and the running kroot.

In his third round his fleeing units run some more and both the fire warriors and the kroot end up near his board edge. His shooting causes a few grey hunter casualties but not enough for morale checks. He does kill the rune priest.
In my third turn the unit of grey hunters in cover moves out and assaults his troop transport. The terminators move round the forest and within 6" of the running kroot. The long fang and Logan move closer towards the fleeing units and the nearby Hammerhead, shoot at it and assault it. The first small unit of grey hunters moves in pursuit of his retreating HQ unit and shoot at it, killing both drones. The other grey hunters move into the ruin that holds the second unit of fire warriors, shoots some pistols and assault them. The grey hunters that assault the troop transport take damage from some defensive upgrade, killing all the grey hunters except for the mark of the wulfen and the wolf guard. The mark of the wulfen immobilizes the skimmer and then the wolf guard can finish it off with his fist, causing an explosion. Logan and the long fang also suffer from the defensive upgrade on the hammerhead, killing the long fang but Logan can also explode the hammerhead. The second unit of grey hunters wins the combat against the fire warriors in cover but they remain locked.

In my opponent's fourth turn, both his kroot and his fire warriors run off the board. The heavy weapon suit shoots at the mark of the wulfen and wolfguard and kill them both. With the slow and purposefull rule, it looks like this unit will not be able to get in range to contest an objective. The grey hunters and his remaining fire warriors trade blows. I kill all but his sergeant model but the units remain locked in combat. His HQ remains shooting and retreating.
In my fourth turn, my terminators move closer towards his tau HQ. Logan also moves closer and joins the terminator squad. The small squad of grey hunters moves closer to the tau HQ, within claiming distance of an objective and shoot at him. A storm bolter from a drop pod takes off another wound, leaving him with only one. My terminators and Logan also shot at his HQ but only one was in rapid fire range. I forgot about relentless, so the others would have had one shot as well. In combat I kill the last remaining fire warrior and consolidate towards a second objective but I was just out of claiming range.

In my opponent's fifth turn, his heavy weapon suit wrecks a drop pod and his tau HQ kills one terminator. He had no more scoring units and I still had three left. One of them was already on an objective. But I wouldn't make it towards the third objective.
In my fifth turn my shooting kills his tau HQ. I move so that I hold two objectives. My opponents rolls a 2 when we check if the game continues but it ends. He only had four models left (his heavy weapon suit with two drones and one scout still running but unable to regroup as the unit was below 50%).

Hobby progress update

I initialy made my wolf priest's crozius arcanum out of chains and skulls as I thought that would be chaosy. I later found out that an accursed crozius resembled a mace-like weapon. In one of my last battles, the chains bit broke off and I decided to redo the crozius. I used a fantasy chaos bit and painted it up tonight. Like all my power weapons, it got a purple wash to make stand out at bit.

Hobby progress update

I finished the latest five marines! I am happy with how the faces (and the eyes) came out in this batch. I still used white for the eyes but went over them with a gryphonne sepia wash after placing the black dot so they blend in a bit more.
