P&B battle report vs Chaos Space Marines

My third 1500 points campaign battle was against a chaos space marine army. This would be the epic battle of the campaign. Whoever of us won this game would almost be certain of the title Best General. But our dice failed us horribly. Mine were horrid and his were only marginally better. It also didn't help that I forgot to use half of Logan's rules. My opponent brought two demon princes with lash, two units of plague marines in rhinos, a unit of khorne berserkers in a rhino, two units of two obliterators and a vindicator. We rolled for mission and deployment and got Capture and Control with Dawn of War deployment. I won the roll to go first but let my opponent choose table sides and start the game.

He placed his opponent near his table side to my left and I placed mine in the opposite quarter but more near the middle of the table. My opponent deployed a rhino with plague marines and one of his daemon princes halfway up the table near my objective. I deployed nothing and didn't try to seize the initiative.

In my opponents first turn he drove his other plague marines right on top of his objective and his khorne berserkers next to them. His other daemon prince jumped into terrain in the middle of the board. His vindicator came on behind the rhino that was already halfway on the table. One squad of obliterators came on behind his newly arrived plague marines, the other squad came up behind the vindicator. All his vehicles popped smoke.

In my first turn I chose to deploy on his side, trying to keep his first daemon prince and unit of plague marines out of the battle for a few turns. I also hoped that coming in close to his own units, he wouldn't be able to use his vindicator without risking his own units. I started with dropping my terminators right between his plague marines rhino and his berserkers rhino. It deviated almost nothing since I would land on the berserkers rhino and I had to shorten the scatter distance. Unfortunately, I couldn't deploy all the terminators towards the side of the obliterators. I dropped my grey hunters with rune priest right in front of his berserker rhino, getting my rune priest in play near the middle of the table so I could block his lash psychic powers the most. I then dropped Logan and the long fangs between the second daemon prince and the vindicator. These shot some krak missiles at the rear of the rhino in the middle of the board but failed to hurt it. The multi-melta's and the remaining missiles shot at the second unit of obliterators, killing one. The terminators shot at the first unit of obliterators with their combi-plasma's, killing one. My rune priest cast Murderous Hurricane on the second daemon prince but failed to hurt it. The rest of the grey hunters that had line of sight also shot at it with almost no effect.

In my opponent's second turn, he disembarked his plague marines and his berserkers and moved the berserkers' rhino out of the way. His first daemon prince started to move back towards his table edge and my units, as did his first unit plague marines who afterwards disembarked. His second daemon prince moved out of terrain near Logan and the long fangs. both his remaining obliterators moved closer. He moved his vindicator up and turned it around to face Logan and the long fangs. He tried to lash with his second daemon prince but my rune priest blocked the psychic power. His berserkers shot their pistols into my grey hunters and his first unit of plague marines also shot at my grey hunters, killing several regular marines. His first obliterator and his plague marines shot at my terminators, killing three. I lost several long fangs to the second obliterator's fire but the vindicator's shot scattered away. He assaulted my grey hunters with his khorne berserkers, I used my banner and Logan's Living Legend and ended up killing more than him, winning the combat. His first plague marines assaulted my remaining terminators, killing another one. His daemon prince assaulted my long fangs but he directed all his attacks to Logan. Logan would see no more movement for the rest of the game.

In my second turn, none of my reserves arrived. With all my units in combat, I had no movement and almost no shooting. The combat between the daemon prince and Logan and the long fangs continued. The daemon prince took some wounds and I won that round of combat. The berserkers and my grey hunters butchered each other so that he had only his fist and a regular guy left while I had only my mark of the wulfen and my runepriest left. The combat between my chainfist wolfguard and the plague marines was a draw.

In my opponent's next turn, he moved his first plague marine squad back into their ride and his first daemon prince moved closer to Logan and the long fangs. His second obliterator moved closer to Logan and the long fangs and assaulted them. His first plague marine squad killed the remaining wolf guard terminator but only moved one inch to consolidate. His khorne berserkers killed my mark of the wulfen, leaving only my runepriest behind. Logan killed the second daemon prince but the obliterator killed two long fangs. I failed my rerollable stubborn leadership 10 check and ran, was caught and had to take fearless wounds which I did make.

In my third turn, only my scouts arrived. I walked them on the board just behind his plague marines, shot them with melta's and bolters, killing one or two. I then assaulted them but was defeated and ran away. The khorne berserkers killed my runepriest. Logan and what remained of his unit failed to kill the obliterator. The plague marines and remaining berserkers consolidated towards my fleeing scouts.

In my opponent's fourth turn, his first daemon prince moved up and assaulted Logan. His plague marines, obliterator and khorne berserkers shot at my scouts, killing all of them. Logan was down to one wound.

In my fourth turn, one of my small grey hunter squads came down right next to the rhino on his objective. My meltagun blew up the rhino which was contesting his objective but that left my unit without cover from his obliterator, berserkers and plague marines. Logan and his unit were slain by his daemon prince and obliterator.

In my opponent's fifth turn, he moved his first unit of plague marines in their rhino right on top of my objective. His daemon prince moved back towards my objective. He moved his vindicator so he had line of sight and barely range on my squad of grey hunters and shot them but scattered on top of his own unit but failed to hurt himself. His plague marines and berserkers shot and assaulted my grey hunters, leaving only my mark of the wulfen in combat with them. His obliterators shot at my drop pods, destroying at least one.

In my fifth turn, my last drop pod arrived and dropped on my objective but I scattered away, out of contesting range. Instead of shooting at his troops's APC, I dediced to gamble and ran them over, luckily I rolled a 6 so I got right next to the rhino, blocking two of the exits and was now in contesting range of my objective. Unfortunately, my other grey hunter with the mark of the wulfen didn't survive and He consolidated towards his own objective. We rolled to see if the game continued and it did.

In my opponent's sixth turn, he disembarked his first unit of plague marines into terrain but rolled a 6 on his terrain check so he could move into possition to rapid fire me with his whole unit. He moved his rhino back, off the objective. His deamon prince flew closer and both his obliterator and his vindicator took up positions to shoot at my grey hunters. His prince lashed my grey hunters away from the objective and into the open. His vindicator shot killed several grey hunters and the rest of his shooting left only the mark of the wulfen alive.

In my sixth turn, I had only one chance to draw the game so I assaulted the rhino with my mark of the wulfen. Had I killed the rhino, I woul have been in claming range and his plague marines were not. But I failed to kill the rhino and it was still in contesting range. We rolled to see if the game continued but it didn't.
